This traditional hotel, which has been in the same private ownership for the past 12 years, has something very special to offer. With 27 bedrooms all individually designed, 21 of which are located within the main building with a further 6 rooms located within the hotel grounds (4 of which are ground floor).
The restauant has recently been rebranded and brought bang up to date with vibrant colours, silk blinds, window seat and fun artwork, but still with the quality hallmarks of The Morritt with the original oak panelling and wood block flooring. The Morritt restaurant offers a relaxed and informal atmosphere, with a contemporary menu featuring the best of local and continental produce, with a competitive pricing structure, each dish being individually priced.
There are a choice of eating areas, whether your choice be the delightful restaurant, the bistro, or during the Summer months you ,may choose to have your meal sitting in the beautiful landscaped gardens with a backdrop which has proved inspirational for many know writers and artists, Charles Dickens being just one!
The Dickens Bar is very much a traditional bar in a traditional setting, with its famous mural painted by Gilroy. What could be nicer in those cooler winter months than sitting by the roaring log fire whilst enjoying a pint from the selection of local hand-pull ales on offer.
So whatever you pleasure, be it business or leisure The Morritt has it all. Ideally situated for visiting the Teesdale Valley and Yorkshire Dales, with many beautiful walks and attractions on the door step.
The Morritt has the benefit of having one of the largest function rooms in the area, and has excellent conference and meeting room facilities.

John and Dorcas Milner have been the owners of The Gables Hotel for the past 23 years and have lived in the village of Haswell Plough for the past 38 years. The Gables is a small family-run hotel which has a very good reputation for its fine English foods. It has been recommended by the AA and Les Routiers. The restaurant is small but quaint and cosy.
